***Disclosure - No compensation received. My family will receive complimentary tickets in exchange for this and any future posts.

Did you know this year marks the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark: Built in 2006, this waterpark is located on historical Galveston Island and has been voted as the World's Best Indoor Waterpark for 8 straight years. This park features more than 33 attractions and a mile long Transportainment River system. To celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Galveston will be unveiling a new ride, which will be the world's tallest water coaster - MASSIV!

MASSIV, named after the German word for massive, is the latest waterslide in the Schlitterbahn family of record-breaking water rides. MASSIV sets a new record for height of an uphill water coaster.

Location:  Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston Island

Built by: Schlitterbahn and WhiteWater West

Height: To be announced (but it’s the tallest in the world)

Color: Green, white, and red with translucent "belly of the beast" section

Technology: Uses patented Master Blaster technology invented by Schlitterbahn’s Wizard of Water, Jeff Henry. Jets of water are used to blast riders uphill.

Number of riders: 1-2 in a double tube

Number of uphill BLASTS: 4

Cool ride features: Exciting never-before-done triple-down ending into the landing pool

Number of slide segments: 135 slide segments (made up of 203 fiberglass parts)

Number of translucent segments: 7 green translucent segments

Length of ride: 2.5 football fields long (926 ft) -- twice the length of any other waterslide at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island.

Fasteners: 6,968 bolts and 6,968 nuts

Steps to the top: 123

What is a water coaster? A water coaster is a water ride that has multiple uphill sections, uses a ride vehicle (boat, tube, or raft), and has other ride elements (spirals, fish ladders, water screens, etc.) to deliver a thrilling and fun filled ride.

Why build this ride at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island
Our park is turning 10 this year and we decided we needed a really big present!

So, what kind of monster is it?
All we know is we have evidence of several claw marks throughout the park and our maintenance team swears they have the feeling that something ginormous is watching them.

How many riders can ride? Will there be weight and height requirements?
MASSIV is designed as a shared experience ride (1-2 riders), so guests who wouldn’t ride alone can scream in the ear of someone they like. Or don’t like.

Rides this massive always have some requirements; single and double riders will need to be at least 48 inches tall. The maximum combined weight of riders is 400 pounds, the maximum for single riders is 300 pounds.

Is there an elevator?
No elevator, no conveyor. Riders will carry a tube to the top of the 123 stairs.

Who’s going to be the first one to ride it?
Every ride we create undergoes rigorous testing and we will announce first riders on MASSIV later.

When will the ride open to the public?
Our opening date will be announced soon.

So I get to the top and change my mind. What then?
If you decide to walk back down, you will have completed a walk of 246 steps. Woo hoo!

Is this a ride for everyone?
MASSIV is a shared experience ride, which gives it much wider appeal. People who would never ride something this big, will ride with a friend or family member. But it may be too massive for some folks.

Are you willing to try this new MASSIV Monster Blaster??
